Unprecedented statement from the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa.
He criticized the international community for failing to protect Palestinians and accused it of double standards toward Israel, saying it does not treat it as it treats Russia.
He said Palestinians feel growing anger at the failure of international institutions to protect civilians or impose on Israel the kind of sanctions placed on Russia over Ukraine.
“Why does the international community allow Israel to do to Palestinians what it does not allow Russia to do in Ukraine?”
He added, “What is built on violence (the occupation) is destined to fail; it is only a matter of time.”
